Happy Thanksgiving…Deals!

Hey guys, it’s almost Thanksgiving! It is going to be a different type of holiday this year due to what we all are going through with this pandemic. Prayers and positive thoughts to you guys and stay safe! That is even more of a reason to be aware of the benefits to offering holiday promotions. More people will be shopping online than ever before and small business owners can offer promotions just like the big companies. “How will this really benefit me,” you might ask? The answer is that we all love a deal and your customers are more likely to buy if you offer a special. If they think about buying and miss your deal you still have accomplished getting them to think about buying. They may decide to purchase one or more of your products later just because you got their attention. 

Last year, for the first time, Black Friday (93.2 million shoppers) beat Cyber Monday (83.3 million) as the busiest shopping day of the year. Wow! That’s a lot of numbers and this was even before the COVID-19 full outbreak, what do you think that means? MORE PURCHASE ONLINE, THAN OFFLINE.


Attention is key. This is why we offer promotions. Our customers and potential customers will look for ways to get something they want for less money. Have you ever spent more money at a store or online because you were getting such a great deal on at least one thing you were buying? Yes, of course! This method really works. Example, I take our daughter Sarah to Khols every year and spend more money than I ever intended to…I’m not giving any specific numbers here…Hubby does the proofreading for this blog, lol. The reason I do this is the special sales. They get my attention!

According to the NRF report on the 2019 Black Friday/Cyber Monday, “free shipping was the biggest reason for shoppers to make a purchase they were otherwise hesitant about, cited by 49 percent, up from 42 percent last year(2018).”


We want to get our customers attention and then we want to get them to buy. This sounds simple and it sounds like something we already know, it’s not rocket science, right? Sure, but deciding what to put on sale can leave us wondering. I recommend offering a deal on an attractive product that is one of your big sellers. I’ve had people tell me it is hard for them to offer money off of a big seller when they know it will sell anyway. Just remember, it is about the attention it draws. You want people to look at the other products on your website. If they do not go to your site they will not be able to see what you are offering. So go ahead and put that popular T-shirt on sale, offer free shipping, entice your customers to buy and watch your orders increase as well as your orders with multiple products skyrocket!

Pro Tip #2 – Happy Thanksgiving – Bonus tip at the end…

So with Thanksgiving just a week away I wanted to change things up a bit. I’ve asked one of our amazing customers, Cherin Peterson Phillips of Memories 4 Gifts and Shirt Jester to provide some tips regarding Thanksgiving.

Do you all set a timer to remind yourself to get up and move at least every hour?  Are you drinking enough water? What are you doing for self-care?  We have been really “challenged” lately with system bugs and other factors so how do you keep your stress level down during the workday?

I started this years ago and have continued and love doing my holiday meals this way.  We used to have big family gatherings for the Holiday’s so I started cooking my turkey the day before. Slicing it, putting it in ziplock bags in the fridge and reserving the broth. The day of the big dinner I put the turkey and broth in a crockpot and keep warm.  I also do all my side dishes day before and keep them in the fridge. It was so nice on Thanksgiving being able to spend time with everyone instead of doing all of that. Clean up was super easy that day because everything was made a head and the turkey stays warm and juicy in the crockpot.  I love using crockpots for as many sides as I can and now with the liners clean up is super easy.

Bonus Tip!

If you are launching or about to launch your online store remember the key is to focus on always improving your users’ experience, so that shopping with you is easy, quick and fun. Flashy elements may be cool but they will not help your bottom line, to sell products! Keep your site clean, simple and easy to use and then market it everywhere!

Sorry, I totally went off topic, I promised you a bonus tip, so here it is:

Sales, Discounts, Promotions, Special Offers: Who Needs them!

Simple answer, YOU DO! If you have an online shop.

Anyone in the sublimation business knows you can gang prints on sublimation paper (generally, depending on size) so if your customer is buying a single coffee cup from your site and I know I can print 3 of that same design on the same piece of paper it only makes sense to try to entice the customer to instead up their order to 3 cups. How? Special offers, sales, or Promotions.

Customers LOVE to get a deal, Shop Owners LOVE to get lots of sales, it only makes sense to incorporate a regular special promotion in you marketing plan for your online shop.

Easiest way to get started is to create a image to tell customers about your special. You can do these in Photoshop, Illustrator, Windows Paint or any other graphics software. Personally, I prefer to use the online resource called Canva, https://canva.com. Even the free version comes with some amazing templates to make creating such images fast and professional. Time is money, right?

Deciding on the size of the image you want to make is totally up to you, I like to use the Social area and the Blog Post image size. When you choose that you get the following screen where you can modify the new specials image any way you want.

A simple search for the word WINTER SALE brings up loads of great pre-designed layouts you can start with. I chose this one:

Now after just changing the background image to one I found on Pixabay and then using the built-in text features of Canva I was able to create my own professional looking custom image I can now add to my website and link to my on-sale t-shirts.

The final image that we would put on our website after downloading from Canva: (Don’t forget to OPTIMIZE the image before you use it on your site, the image you get from Canva will be large filesize, this one was over 1MB in size originally, down using R.I.O.T. to only 86KB…that is a HUGE savings).
